Information on use

Usage time 2 - 2.5 h / 20 °C
Pot life 4 h / 20 °C
Stackable after Directly after UV curing and sufficient cooling.
Complete drying 7 d / 20 °C
Curing Pigmented lacquers are cured using a combination of gallium and mercury lamps. Sufficient radiation energy must be provided. This depends primarily on the type, conditions, age and design of the lamp system, so that the optimum UV lamp settings can be implemented on the respective system, and the curing should be checked. Your Hesse representative will assist you with the determination of the necessary radiant energy.
For the optimal complete hardening of this HYDRO-UV Colour lacquer, minimum energy levels of UVA 1500 mJ/cm2, UVB 1500 mJ/cm2 and UVV 3000 mJ/cm² must be maintained (determined using the EIT PowerMAP / Power Puck measurement device).

When stacking, the surface temperature may not exceed 60 °C.

Mechanical drying Array
Surface preparation The substrate must be dry, dust-free and grease-free.
Substrate sanding grits from-to 280 - 400
Lacquer sanding (grit) from - to 320 - 600
Finishing After UV curing and intermediate sanding back, a subsequent coat of a matching product from the Hesse HYDRO range can be applied to this lacquer.
Comments on sanding Sanded lacquer layers and surfaces must be coated directly.
Yield per coat 0 - 0 m²/l

The spreading rate is heavily dependent on the type of application. The specifications relate to a liter of ready-for-use product, if necessary including hardener and thinner.
Working Temperature Range 15 - 35 °C
Storage temperature 10 - 25 °C
Working temperature 20 °C
conditions of transport frost-free - up to a maximum of 35 °C
Processing instructions Hardener should normally be added in a slow stream while stirring; only after that should the lacquer be diluted, if necessary. Working viscosity can be adjusted with water or HYDRO Optimizer HZ 70 (maximum 3 % by volume). For strip cleaning, we recommend the HYDRO Cleaner HY 6995 at a mixing ratio of 1 : 10 with water.
Particular instructions There are further alternatives to the hardener stated here. These can be found in the client-specific process description.

For the white colour tones RAL 9010 and RAL 9016, it is possible to work without hardener if there is sufficient UV hardening.

A long pot life of up to 5 h / 20 °C can be achieved when working with Hardener HDR 5081 at a mixing ratio (by volume) of 20 : 1.

It is also possible to add Hardener HDR 5073 in a mixing ratio (by volume) of 20 : 1 prior to application. The pot life is 7 h / 20 °C, the open time is around 4 h / 20 °C.

When applied to glass, the lacquer is used with hardener HDR 5040 at a mixing ratio (by volume) 10 : 1. Before lacquering, the glass must be cleaned using Hesse Cleaner HS 6601. The pot life of the material is 1 h / 20 °C. It is necessary to use a 2C system because of the short pot life. FABULAC is suitable for coating glass for low-stress, decorative purposes in non-wet areas. For glass under higher stress, we recommend using a special glass coating from the Hesse product range. This section describes the procedure for applying FABULAC on components that cannot be cured using a UV emitter due to their size: The lacquer should be configured for working viscosity by mixing it in a mixing ratio (by volume) of 20 : 1 with HYDRO Hardener HDR 5083 and with 2 - 3 % water or HYDRO Optimizer HZ 70. Application should be via cup gun or Airmix device and the application quantity should not exceed 130 g/m². The pot life is 3 h / 20 °C, with drying in a trolley for 16 h / 20 °C. This application method is advisable for large components like cornices for which a chemical resistance to DIN 68861-1C is sufficient. Please conduct a test of the bond on the substrate being used.
General instructions on workmanship When applying HYDRO materials, parts that come into contact with the material must be made from non-rusting material. The wood moisture content should be between 8 and 12 %. Stir the material well before application. Do not apply or dry HYDRO lacquers at material or room-temperatures below 18 °C. The ideal ambient humidity for application lies between 55 and 65 %. A humidity level that is too low leads to shrink cracks during the lacquering process; humidity that is too high hinders drying. Please freshly sand the lacquered surfaces before coating and apply lacquer to the sanded surfaces as soon as possible to prevent adhesion problems. When applied on laminates, etc., please use a sample coating on the respective substrate to check the adhesion! Final hardness of the coating is achieved after a week if stored at a minimum of 20 °C room temperature. Woods with rich contents, such as teak, may have an adverse effect on adhesion. Water-soluble ingredients in woods such as ash and tannins in woods such as oak may cause colour changes and discolorations in the coating. Always conduct a sample lacquering to evaluate the colour effect, adhesion and drying process under practical conditions. Always seal opened containers light-tight and air-tight to prevent skin forming. Remove dried lacquer residue using a sieve. Products in containers should be sieved before application. Never store product mixed with hardener in closed containers.

The coating process and the precise treatment parameters are adapted in each case to the respective application and drying conditions and can be found in the customer-specific process descriptions (surface techniques).

As a standard structure for the furniture industry, we recommend using a coated, sanded MDF panel (280 grit sanding paper). Depending on the possibilities, this can be primed with our Hesse HYDRO-UV Filler HUP 8850-9010 or our Hesse UV Basecoat for roller coating UG 7350. After lacquer sanding at 320 - 400 grit, it should be coated with 1 x 130 g/m² Hesse FABULAC HUB 85x(gloss level)-(colour tone), dried and hardened.

Some colour tones, primarily yellows and reds, must be lacquered twice to reach the desired colour tone. For the corresponding information, please see the label or the client-specific process description. The recommended application method for double coating is to apply 1 x 100 g/m² with hardening and lacquer sanding at 600 grit and then the subsequent coat of lacquer at 1 x 100 g/m².
