Adhesion problems

Detachment due to wood moisture/shrink cracks

Description of the defect

The layer of lacquer does not exhibit the required adhesion with the substrate (cross cut test).

Cause of the defect

  • defective substrate pre-treatment (fat not removed, not sanded).
  • unsuitable substrate (contains paraffin or release agent).
  • unsuitable coating system.
  • incorrect drying of the coating system.
  • base coat insufficiently sanded
  • sanded base coat left for too long .

Defect solution

The poorly bonding layer of lacquer needs to be removed completely. Then the surface is pre-treated with a suitable coating in accordance with instructions.
