• NC primer or unhardened polyurethane primer, then coated with a solvent-fast coating system, after complete hardening a further solvent-based topcoat. (The solvent in the topcoat diffuses through the solvent-fast (middle) layer of lacquer into the dissolvable coat which swells in size.
• Coats of polyurethane lacquer that are too thick or, as may apply, processes that follow on from each other too quickly.

Identify the cause (lacquer structure, intermediate drying) and then weigh up the options for repair,

for example, removing the entire damaged layer of lacquer and recoat in line with treatment guidelines.

for example, sand the coating well until you have a flat, level surface and then add a mist of heavily thinned coating. When doing so, the lacquer needs to be applied as dry as possible in order to prevent the solvent from affecting the surface of the coating. In general, this can only be done with smaller items being worked on.

for example, working with a coating system that does not dissolve into the substrate (water-based lacquer, synthetic resin lacquer etc.).
