Our HDU 57270 is an isocyanate-free, clear and light fast HYDRO-PU Glass lacquer that has been specifically developed for coating glass via the spraying process. You achieve an extremely waterproof and scratch-resistant glass lacquer surface in the desired sandblasting effect, which is also highly resistant to chemical and mechanical demands.

Surface preparation Substrate preparation is decisive to the bond of the glass coating. The glass surface to be coated must be clean and grease-free. Carefully clean the glass surface prior to application, e.g. using Glass cleaner HS 6601.

The spreading rate is heavily dependent on the type of application. The specifications relate to a liter of ready-for-use product, if necessary including hardener and thinner.

Processing instructions

Substrate preparation is decisive to the bond of the glass coating. The glass surface to be coated must be clean and grease-free. Carefully clean the glass surface prior to application, e.g. using Glass cleaner HS 6601.

Before processing, add the crosslinker in the indicated ratio while stirring and ensure that it is well incorporated.

Note the limited processing time. Setting material can continue to be used by mixing with fresh material and then adding the crosslinker.

Clean tools with water. Use HYDRO Cleaning agent HV 6917 to remove dried lacquer residues. In the event of combined coatings (HYDRO and solvent-based lacquers) rinse application tools using HYDRO Reversing agent HV 6904.

Add the crosslinker slowly whilst stirring and then adjust the spray viscosity by adding water or HYDRO Optimizer HZ 70, if required. Maximum additive volume 5 %.

A single-coat application at 100 - 150 g/m² on a carefully prepared glass surface is recommended.

Particular instructions

Final hardness of the coating is achieved after one week in correct storage conditions (at least 20 °C room temperature). Always seal opened packaging light-tight and air-tight to prevent skin forming. Remove dried lacquer residue using a sieve. Products in containers should be sieved before processing. Please build up a full trial coating finishing procedure on the original glass under real conditions. The glass colour can affect the later colour tone when coating behind glass. Please take this into account in selection of the glass!

Tinting at 5 - 10 % using our BP Colour concentrates prior to adding the crosslinker enables a coloured, glazing satin effect to be achieved. It should be noted in this regard that the lacquer application quantity, the type of application method and the drying conditions all influence the effect and the colour tone of glass coatings.

General instructions on workmanship When processing HYDRO materials, parts that come into contact with the material must be made from non-rusting material. Do not apply or dry HYDRO lacquers at material or room temperatures below 18 °C. The ideal humidity level when coating is between 55 % and 65 %. During the lacquering process, humidity that is too low leads to shrinkage cracks, humidity that is too high hinders drying. The coating reaches its final hardness after being stored for a week at a minimum of 20 °C. Always conduct a sample lacquering to evaluate the colour effect, adhesion and drying process under real conditions.

1 x 120 - 150 g/m² HYDRO-PU Glass lacquer satin effect HDU 57120, mixing ratio (by volume) 100 : 3 with HYDRO Crosslinker HDR 5002, thin the mixture with 5 % water.

Drying: 24 h / 20 °C

Ready for assembly or gluing: after drying/storage for at least 5 d / 20 °C.
